v0.0.47 · Open source, in beta

Less path.
More flow.

Jump to the folders you visit. A few letters, a familiar meaning, or another language. Right from your shell.

macOS 15+ & Linux·Bash / Zsh / Fish

j-jump — zsh
~/workmain
❯j pay

❯You’re here. Back to your work.

LOCAL · NO NETWORK

Try a scenario. Illustrative demo; no commands run.

Local at heart.
Semantic when you want it.
Semantic suggestions. Your choice.

01 / FIND YOUR WAY

You remember the work.
It remembers the way.

Keep using cd. J-Jump remembers where you go, so the next visit takes less typing.

01

A little name goes a long way.

Type a few letters. Local matching ranks the folders you have visited by name, then by how often and how recently you visit.

j pay
02

The idea is enough.

Forgot the folder name? An optional semantic model can suggest a match from your visited folders. You choose where to go.

ji my cv
03

Think in your own language.

A folder name does not have to match the language you think in. Ask by meaning, even across languages, with your chosen model.

ji 税务

02 / A LITTLE HELP. YOUR CALL.

Your shell.
Your rules.

Start with local jumps. Add semantic help only if you need it. The model suggests; you decide.

/ 01

Works without a model.

Name matching and visit history stay on your machine. Local navigation needs no account, API key or network.

/ 02

Choose where the model runs.

Jev, Cloudflare Clef-Flash and OpenAI Decisions in the cloud. Or Tev1 with Ollama on your own computer.

Know what leaves your machine.

Semantic help is off by default. Strict mode sends only your query and candidate folder names—never file contents, source code, or environment variables. Preview requests and exclude folders anytime.

03 / SMALL COMMANDS. EVERYDAY USE.

Fits right in.
Gets out of the way.

A few commands to make moving around feel natural. Your regular cd keeps working exactly as before.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you jump.

Do I need AI to use J-Jump?

No. Name matching, visit history and navigation work locally. Choose off during the first-run setup. You can enable a semantic provider later with jjump setup.

Does it search my whole computer?

No. J-Jump only searches the folders you have visited since installing it. It starts empty. Visit a folder with cd once, then find it with j or ji.

Is it free?

J-Jump is free and open source under the MIT license. Optional cloud model providers may charge for API requests. Local Tev1 requires your own Ollama installation and a model download.

What if I already use the j command?

Choose another name when connecting your shell: jjump shell install --cmd jump. This gives you jump and jumpi.

What should I know about this beta?

J-Jump is still in its 0.0.x releases. Expect rough edges, and occasional upgrades that need a one-time settings or history fix. Run jjump doctor for guidance. Release binaries are unsigned; installers verify their SHA-256 checksums.
